The World of Warcraft Remote Auction House beta test is now open for business! The Remote Auction House is a new service in development that lets players access the World of Warcraft Auction House from the Armory website (http://us.wowarmory.com/auctionhouse/) or the Mobile Armory app for iPhone and iPod touch (here). Players can browse their characters’ local Auction Houses with the same search functionality available in the game, as well as see the real-time status of each of their current bids and auctions.

As we’d mentioned previously, certain features of the Remote Auction House will be premium-based. Once the beta test is complete and the Remote Auction House is live, players will be able to subscribe to a new service called World of Warcraft Remote (http://us.wowarmory.com/wow-remote.xml), which will allow them to buy items; post items for sale from a character’s bags, bank, or mailbox; collect gold from their bids and auctions; and more. During the beta test, players can try out these features for free, and each World of Warcraft account will be able to perform up to 25 transactions per day. (Please note this limit will be increased at launch.)

What is the World of Warcraft Remote Auction House beta test?
The Remote Auction House is a new feature, currently undergoing beta testing, that allows players to log in to the Armory and browse any Auction House that the characters on their World of Warcraft account have access to. Once beta testing is complete and the Remote Auction House is live, players who subscribe to an upcoming service called World of Warcraft Remote will also be able to bid on or buy out existing auctions; post items for sale from their bags, bank, and mailbox; and collect gold that they earn in auctions or that is returned as a result of being outbid, all through the web or their compatible mobile device. During the beta-testing period, players will be able to try out and test all of these features, including premium features such as making bids and posting auctions, without a subscription to World of Warcraft Remote.

How do I browse the Remote Auction House via the web?
After you log in and designate a primary character, click on the Browse Auctions tab, and then enter the search term in the field. You can narrow your search using the filters and options, which are similar to those available in the game. To switch between the character’s faction-specific auction house and the realm’s neutral auction house, click the faction symbol in the upper-right corner of the interface. A World of Warcraft Remote subscription will not be required to browse the Auction House in this fashion; however, please note that after the beta test concludes, you will need to subscribe to World of Warcraft Remote in order to bid on or buy out items from the results window.

How do I create auctions?
From the Create Auctions tab, select the item you wish to sell from the list on the left side of the screen. You can sell any transferable item (excluding account-bound items) from your bags, bank, or mailbox. Once selected, you can set a starting price, a buyout price, the quantity you wish to sell, and the number of stacks (to create multiple auctions for that item). Please note that after the beta test concludes, you will need a subscription to World of Warcraft Remote in order to create auctions.

How can I collect gold from successful auctions and unsuccessful bids?
To collect gold from a successful auction, click the My Auctions tab, and then click the Claim Gold button next to the successful auction, or the Claim All Gold button to claim the gold from all successful auctions. The gold will be removed from your mailbox and given to your character. You can also reclaim gold from unsuccessful bids on the My Bids tab. Please note that after the beta test concludes and the live service launches, you will need a subscription to World of Warcraft Remote to use these features.

How will I subscribe to World of Warcraft Remote?
Subscriptions to World of Warcraft Remote are not yet available; we’ll have more information about how to subscribe after the Remote Auction House beta test concludes. In the meantime, you can visit the World of Warcraft Remote FAQ for more information.

Is there a limit to the number of transactions (purchases and sales) I can make?
Yes. In order to help prevent abuse of this service, there will be a system in place to limit the total number of Auction House transactions (including bids, buyouts, and creating auctions) that a single World of Warcraft account can perform through World of Warcraft Remote each day. For the purposes of the beta test, the limit is set to 25 transactions per day per World of Warcraft account. When the Remote Auction House beta test ends and the live World of Warcraft Remote service launches, we plan to increase the limit to 200 transactions per day (with a World of Warcraft Remote subscription), though this limit is subject to change. Our goal with this system is to ensure that most players who are using the service will not reach the limit, and we will be continuously monitoring how the service is used and making adjustments to the system as needed.

Is the Remote Auction House affected by weekly maintenance?
The Remote Auction House will be unavailable during periods of downtime, which includes the weekly Tuesday maintenance period. In addition, during the beta-testing period, the service may be unavailable for periods of time for testing purposes.

Who can participate in the World of Warcraft Remote Auction House beta test?
The Remote Auction House beta test is open to existing World of Warcraft players on select realms — you do not need to sign up to participate. For a complete list of realms currently participating in the beta test, visit the Remote Auction House Beta Test thread in the official World of Warcraft forums. If you do not see your realm listed, check back later, as we plan to expand the beta test to all realms in the future.

(Transmute Guide)

Introduction
While we can take a single toon and fly about gathering mineral or herbs, the same as any other one-boxer… and possibly even have a few toons doing the same at one time, switching between them. This is not really that much more efficient a means to make gold then we could do as single boxers.

Dailies are a decent method to compound our extra characters into more gold then a one-boxer makes, from doing the same thing as one character. It requires a route which is based off of either kills or drops where each toon can loot from every corpse. My current route takes 45 minutes on the first team and an hour on the other two teams, and makes 1100g in the process. But dailies are repetitive and boring, even if they are consistent. It is getting rather hard to make myself run the route each day.

Something better…
I’ve read a few threads on making gold as a boxer. Dailies seemed to be the answer, but they are becoming a chore to do.

Transmutes on the other hand…

Your toon needs to be level 65, in order to advance to a 450 Alchemy skill. In addition, you would like to be 68th for the specialization; in our case Transmutation specialization (which requires 4x Primal Might – BC era, 1x Primal Fire/Water/Air/Earth/Mana).

Transmutation Specialization is a chance for 1-4 extra items to be made, for the same material cost. While it does not proc often, it will easily pay the cost of the 4x Primal Might after a couple of procs.

I currently have 22 toons who are 70th or above, and who have an open profession slot or a profession I don’t mind dumping. I’m really considering the Druids and Warlocks/Priest (pvp teams) as well, not sure that I want to level Engineering on them or not; 10 more Alchemists is decent coin. 20 to 30 toons, able to do transmutes.

There are currently six epic gem transmutes in the game. Five of them are vendor trained, while the sixth is the quest reward for having done five or more epic gem transmutes.

Chances are good, gems are here to stay. In Cataclysm, the skill level will likely be 75 higher then it is now, the gems will have a new name and better stats, but the system will be the same — which means the profit potential of the method will remain.

Checking the auction house for historical and current data, specifically the pre-transmute costs for the materials; on my server, they are:

- Ametrine (1x Eternal Shadow, 1x Monarch Topaz)….. 20 Gold
- Cardinal Ruby (1x Eternal Fire, 1x Scarlet Ruby)…….. 80 Gold
- Dreadstone (1x Eternal Shadow, 1x Twilight Opal)….. 25 Gold
- Eye of Zul (3x Forest Emerald)………………………….. 20 Gold
- King’s Amber (1x Eternal Life, 1x Autumn’s Glow)…… 35 Gold
- Majestic Zircon (1x Eternal Air, 1x Sky Sapphire)……. 30 Gold

And then checking the value of the post-transmute (and cut) gems:

- Ametrine cuts, 165-210 Gold………………….. Up to +190 Gold
- Cardinal Ruby cuts, 170-200 Gold……………. Up to +120 Gold
- Dreadstone cuts, 150-250 Gold……………….. Up to +225 Gold
- Eye of Zul cuts, 160-210 Gold…………………. Up to +180 Gold
- King’s Amber cuts, 130-190 Gold……………… Up to +155 Gold
- Majestic Zircon cuts, 130-190 Gold…………… Up to +160 Gold

Obviously, if you don’t have a Jewelcrafter capable of epic cuts, your profits will be less. However, the Jewelcraft daily is extremely easy to do — combine two gems (prospect ore or purchase on the AH), with a drop off of a low-mid 70th mob, for a couple of gold profit if you bought the gems on the AH. You also receive one jewelcraft token, and epic cuts cost 4 tokens each.

Some Math

Transmutes are on 20 hour cooldowns, which essentially means we get one transmute per day, for each character who is a 450 Alchemist.

When starting out, we will naturally make the most profitable gem transmute, based on the cost of the materials versus the sell price of the transmuted and cut gem. However, we will not want to flood the market as we would like our cut gems to actually sell.

Ideally, our Jewelcrafter will have several cuts. I have 8 so far, which means with 22 Alchemists, I would have approximately 3 of each gem for sale each day. With 32 Alchemists, I would have 4 of each gem up at once.

The more cuts we have, the more flexibility we have. If I had an epic cut for each epic gem I were to produce, this would be the ideal. I could post my one gem of each type, with an excellent chance it would sell. With a single cut and 20 gems placed, it is very unlikely all will sell within 20 hours and I again flood the market with 20 more of that gem. Our Jewelcrafter(s) are an important portion of the system.

The math… assuming an average of 150 gold profit on a transmute/cut.
- 01 Alchemists = 0,150 Gold
- 05 Alchemists = 0,750 Gold
- 10 Alchemists = 1,500 Gold
- 20 Alchemists = 3,000 Gold
- 30 Alchemists = 4,500 Gold

Even running 30 Alchemists… It will be a relatively quick process to log six sets of toons into the game (5 toons per set), press a keybind which has the crafting macro on it, and then have my JC toon cut each gem, and have the auction toon list them. A quarter of the time of running dailies on the most geared team, and the profit of dailies on four teams.

The Plan

I detest farming, but at some points it will be necessary. There is an abundance of Northrend herbs on the auction house. There are generally enough Outland herbs, but this bracket can cost a fair bit. Classic warcraft era herbs are not always available in large enough quantities, which means farming will be required at times.

1) Run at least four teams through the daily route, over the course of two days. If you only have one team at 80th, adjust your plan to an alchemist every four days, instead of every two days. In my case, my route is 1,100g in 45 minutes on the main team, or an hour on the other two teams. The reason for 4 daily runs, is purely gold; AH purchasing everything has ranged from 2,700 to 3,800 gold.

2) Over the course of these two days, AH purchase as many herbs as possible of the types used for the alchemy guide you are following. There are numerous alchemy guides for free. A google search found this for me: WoW Alchemy Guide 1-450. It is not necessarily the best guide, but it works. It has general guidelines, such as 55x Sungrass, or whatever. I will over purchase as often as possible (at least until the last few toons), as the next Alchemist can use surplus herbs.

3) Level up an Alchemist every other day, using the herbs purchased. In the event of not enough herbs, have my herbalist toon do a little farming. I actually have a herbalist (and skinner/miner/enchanter) per team, so can have herbalists in three places at once. This is not the preferable option, but I’d rather farm a little then be at the mercy of hoping someone will list something.

4) Repeat the above process… hopefully cranking out an Alchemist every two days.

5) Run the Jewelcraft Daily, every day to expand my repetoire of cuts. The ideal, is one cut per Alchemist.

Some Macros

This one is over 255 characters, if you leave it intact you’ll need an addon which allows for longer macros… something like IS Boxer, Macaroon or Supermacros.

Alternatively, you could break it into smaller macros, and give a piece to each toon. If you are transmuting five different gem types across a five man team, each toon could have their own macro.

It will do whichever transmute you have materials for.

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Majestic Zircon” then DoTradeSkill(i) end if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Eye of Zul” then DoTradeSkill(i) end if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Ametrine” then DoTradeSkill(i) end if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Dreadstone” then DoTradeSkill(i) end if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Cardinal Ruby” then DoTradeSkill(i) end if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: King’s Amber” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

You could break it into:
(Have not tested the smaller macros)

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Ametrine” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Cardinal Ruby” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Dreadstone” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Eye of Zul” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: King’s Amber” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

/cast Alchemy
/run for i=1,GetNumTradeSkills() do if GetTradeSkillInfo(i)==”Transmute: Majestic Zircon” then DoTradeSkill(i) break end CloseTradeSkill() end

And one more macro. This one will find the transmuted gem in your inventory, then open a trade window to the desired toon.

/run for i=0,4 do for x=1,GetContainerNumSlots(i) do y=GetContainerItemLink(i,x) if y then if GetItemInfo(y)==”Ametrine” then PickupContainerItem(i,x); DropItemOnUnit(”ahtoon”); return; end end end end

Just substitute the gem type and change the DropItemOnUnit to point towards either your AH recipient, your Jewelcrafter, or the toon who will be mailing to the desired character (only one toon will be on the same account, for instant mailing).

Addendum

The alchemy guide I linked, has needed “x” amount of each herb. While there are other paths out there, they will end up being similar.

Having followed this guide for two toons so far, this is what I’ve needed. The link for each herb, is to the thottbot resource map for the zone with the best spawn rate.

Next run through, I’ll take note of which herbs are orange recipes (Fixed number of herbs) and which are yellow/green (Estimated number of herbs).

The general strategy was to run in, raise hell with aggro, and have the pets tank everything while the Hunters DPS’d with multishot a bunch. At the same time, the Priests would go nuts casting Holy Nova, both for DPS and for healing.

Check out the video below of the actual live run without any edits. Sit back, grab some popcorn, and let the full screen madness ensue!

A little over a week ago, Tim and Rob decide to build a new team of multiboxers with the intent to play together on the new team as much as possible. The team is built around PVE and PVP, with PVP being more of the focus. The team is highly specialized and consists of only two character classes.

Tim – 2x Priests, currently both Holy spec

Rob – 3x Hunters, currently both BM spec

The reasoning behind the team composition is that the BM pets should easily be able to tank with the hunters contributing the bulk of the groups DPS, while at the same time healing the pets through pet and hunter talents. The dual priests will float around spamming Holy Nova, contributing nicely to group DPS while at the same time keeping huge heals up on the entire group including the pets.

Below is a video of doing Stockades with this team make up. Enjoy!

A week ago I got my hands on the Roccat Valo keyboard. This keyboard has more programmable keys than you can shake a stick at. From a multiboxing standpoint, the more programmable keys, the better. Having endless programmable keys is akin to having more HD space, or more RAM. The more programmable keys you have, the more options open up for additional strategies and methods.

From the Roccat Website:

ILLUMINATED KEYS AND DISPLAY for improved key hit rate and vital in-game information
41 MACRO KEYS for ultra long macros with 500 keystrokes plus timing information stored directly on the keyboard
2MB INTERNAL MEMORY for storing 1 Profile-2-Go with 4 layers each including individual macros
MACRO LIVE RECORDING BUTTON for quick and easy key programming without leaving the game
ENHANCED CONNECTIVITY with a USB port, headphone and microphone ports
EXTERNAL ROCCAT™ GAMING MICROPHONE with uni-directional noise-cancellation technology
ANTI-GHOSTING CAPABILITY for simultaneous keystrokes
MEDIA KEYS with quick access to important multimedia functions
GAMING SHAPE with rubber-coated frame for long lasting maximum grip and comfort
KEY DEACTIVATION Windows keys, Shift key, Caps Lock and Tab Key can be deactivated to avoid accidental return to the Windows Desktop or wrong keystrokes

We put this keyboard to the test while multiboxing in World of Warcraft.

Right off the back we were very impressed with the keyboard layout. The tremendous amount of programmable keys could be a huge boon to multiboxing. Unfortunately, the appeal of the keyboard ended right there. The keyboard had a great deal of issues that made using it for us virtually impossible to use effectively.

Here is what we found:

The keyboard’s built in USB is not USB 2.0 which makes the handy extra port virtually useless as the slow speeds in transferring USB memory files, or USB hard drives, make us reminiscence of circa 1990 PCs.

The keys on the keyboard are not very reactive or springy to the touch. For those of us used to agile, springy keyboards, a must for fast typers, this keyboard will dissapoint.

The software with the keyboard freezes every time you hit APPLY.

The keyboard dropped approx 50% of all keys typed. We put the keyboard to the standard test of rolling our fingers across the keys from 1 to 0. Out of 10 attempts, the keyboard dropped nearly 50% of all keys. This is simply unacceptable.

The keyboard would randomly turn off while in use. One moment you’d be typing out in-game, another moment the keyboard would power down and “reboot” itself, being unavailable for minutes at a time.

Major Concern: We contacted the Roccat support about some of these issues and were astounded at what their response was.

“Some customers have already informed us about similar problems with missing keystrokes.” … “If it is bothering you a lot, feel free to return the keyboard to your dealer.”

Final Review: Do not buy this keyboard. This keyboard is going back to the dealer and I highly recommend you stay far away from this product as you will be highly dissapointed.

Update #1: The company that sold me the keyboard, Performance-PCs.com, is refusing to do a full refund, even though the keyboard is clearly defective and only a couple weeks has passed. This company is the only US retailer for the keyboard and I strongly recommend not purchasing anything from them.

Update #2 (01/08/10): The Roccat company, the producer of this keyboard, emailed me today stating that I should contact the company who sold me the keyboard for a refund. However, the company that sold me the keyboard decided to send me an email stating that they were ignoring my emails in which I asked for a full refund.

A standard mouse has 2, maybe 3 buttons. A gaming mouse typically has 4-6 buttons. But what if your mouse had 17 buttons? Well, the Razer company was so kind as to ship me one of their Razer Naga gaming mice to review. Yes folks, there is practically an entire keyboard on this mouse! We are doing a full unboxing and review of their mouse, including all the materials it comes with, to the software setup and configuration and actual use.

The specifications of the Naga from the Razer website:

5600dpi Razer Precision 3.5G Laser Sensor

1000Hz Ultrapolling™ / 1ms response time

200 inches per second max tracking speed

Zero-acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon feet

17 MMO-optimized buttons (including 12 button thumb grid)

Optional MMO-specific software AddOns

Unlimited character profiles with AddOns

Approximate size: 116L x 69W x 41.6H (in mm)

Here is our 45 minute video reviewing this fine piece of hardware:

First words:

The mouse is an visually a stunning piece of hardware. The flat matte black top is starkly contrasted by the high gloss sides. The mouse USB cable is some sort of braided material, adding to the high class feel of the pointing device. The resolution of the mouse in-game was amazing. You can actually single out individual pixels with this mouse, that is how fine the control is. The mouse also glides smoothly across my flat surfaced desk. It took only minutes to get used to the placement of the 12 keys on the side.

After setting up the easy software GUI, I gave it a test in World of Warcraft, multibox style. I loaded up 3 Shaman, all level 80, and proceeded to obliterate Alterac Valley. Whereas I used to press my attack and multiboxing assist macros with my right hand, requiring me to let go of the mouse, now I can do so in a seamless way. For example, the mouse keys 5-9 are all mapped to specific Shaman multiboxing DPS macros, whereas the first 1-4 keys are used for party arrangements, follow mode, etc.

Here are some of the bullet points after using the mouse for a few days:

PROS

The mouse has an INSANE amount of buttons. Lately I have been multiboxing rogues, and having their twitch buttons right on the actual mouse makes stunlocking targets into death EZ mode.

The buttons light up in a very crisp and clear way, making visual reference of the buttons quite easy.

The software is extremely simple and easy to set up. You simply plug the mouse in, set the keys to mirror your keyboard or numpad, and you are rocking!

The mouse resolution and responsiveness is much better than any mouse I have used before.

CONS

I wish the keys would be programmable VS mirroring the keyboard/numpad

You cannot use your thumb to firmly grip the mouse as their are keys in the way (12 keys, duh!)

On a personal preference, the mouse would perform better for me if it was 35-50 grams heavier.

Final Review: Anybody who multiboxes in World of Warcraft, or anybody who is a true MMO competitor needs to get their hands on this mouse as it opens up new strategic ways to take user desire into immediate in-game action. This mouse is a beast!

Here is the second in a 3 part series of multiboxing Icecrown 5 man dungeons normal mode guides. You can see our other multiboxing video guides here. This time around we are doing Halls of Reflection (HoR). Our group consists of the following:

1x Druid Tank

3x Elemental Shaman

1x Restoration Shaman

Halls of Reflection (HoR) is essentially a single room with multiple waves of mobs before fighting 2 bosses, and ends with a run from the Lich King himself.

The fight starts out with Lady Sylvanas and yourselves in the very room with the Lich King’s sword, Frostmourne. Uther the Lightbringer appears to still be bound to the sword and he warns Sylvanas to quickly exit before the Lich King comes. There appears to be some foreshadowing when Uther mentions that there must always be a Lich King, and that the current Lich King is actually helping the people of world. “Without the control of the Lich King, the scourge of the world would overrun…”

Multiple waves of elites will come at your team at once which, if killed quickly enough, will offer you about 5 seconds to drink between fights to regain mana. My strategy was to put all my guys in the original tunnel that you came in from and simply tank and spank the waves of elites. Be careful to always have aggro on all the mobs or they will punk you caster/healers.

Boss Falric

The fight against the dead captain is mostly about quick dispelling of magic debuffs. Impending Despair will stun its target after 3 seconds if not removed, and Quivering Strike will frequently drop the tank’s dodge by 20%. In addition, Defiling Horror will send the entire party fleeing in horror for 4 seconds, while taking damage, and Falric’s Hopelessness aura will reduce all players’ damage and healing done by 20% (Heroic: 25%), stacking up to 3 times.

Tank and spank for the most part with careful attention to regrouping after his Horror/Fear.

Boss Marwyn

As Falric is more of a warrior-type of boss, Marwyn is similar to a death knight. He uses Obliterate frequently, and focuses on corruption attacks. He will occasionally spawn Well of Corruption underneath a player, which causes Corrupted Flesh, inflicting a Corrupted Touch DoT on its target. He will also cast a dangerous debuff called Shared Suffering which deals damage to a single player, though if dispelled the damage will be dealt to all players.

Again, tank and spank, and you really don’t need to put much effort into his DoT.

After the fight

Basically just follow the tunnel down to where Sylvanas is getting pwned by the Lich King. It is amazing that she actually got him down as far as she did. From here, you need to talk to her then run as fast as you can away from the former Arthas until a wall of ice will appear. Immediately turn around and then dish out some pwn to the mobs that the LK summons. Rinse and repeat until the 4th and final wall. From there, blow all your cooldowns once the multiple fat men appear, otherwise you may have trouble. From there simply run away and watch the forthcoming short cinematic.

Below is an entire, unedited video of the run.

Here is the first in a 3 part series of multiboxing Icecrown 5 man dungeons normal mode guides. Our group consists of the following:

1x Druid Tank

3x Elemental Shaman

1x Restoration Shaman

Our gear isn’t too sophisticated, I’d say our average item level is somewhere around item level 219 average, maybe a bit lower.

The Strategy

The trash is really easy, but not if you aren’t paying enough attention. You will see that we started out bad at the beginning by losing our tank due to pulling multiple groups at once. Thanks to 4x Earth Elementals we ended up surviving.

Forgemaster Garfrost

This guy was an absolute piece of cake. The strategy is basically to run all your guys directly in as far as you can and simply tank and spank. He will bounce your guys away at first but ideally you are still within casting range on 1-3 of your guys and can tank and spank him down with ease. Very easy.

Krick and Ick

The key to this fight is this: Do not DPS when he is doing his zone bomb thingys. Just move around and have your multiboxing crew following your main controlled guy (tank) until this finishes. While he is channeling this, focus only on your instant DPS and have your healer use their instant heals to keep your party full. While you are stationary and fighting him, group your guys up together so you can easily move out of his poison AOE spits.

Scourgelord Tyrannus

This guy was extremely easy as well. He does do an attack called Overlord’s Brand of which will mirror damage/heals on 1 party member. Basically stop all DPS while he is doing this, and restart when he is done. Tank and spank and you win.

Enjoy the 60 minute video below of the entire run with ZERO edits!

Often times here at Multiboxing.com, we get into discussions where people come forth and confess that they’re completely clueless about something. This, of course, is where we come some further discussions and some really great guides. One such discussion led to both Tim and myself saying how much we didn’t know about “96969″. That sparked not one, but two different looks at the rotation all put into a single thread. Such wonderful things come from not knowing something.

And now a look a paladin tanking.

The Paladin 96969 Macro

The 96969 macro, is essentially three abilities with 9 second cooldowns, combined with two abilities with 6 second cooldowns.

By weaving them together, each “9″ ability is used every 9 seconds, while each “6″ ability is used every 6 seconds.

Each of our “9″ abilities lasts 8 to 9 seconds, while each of our “6″ abilities is on a six second cooldown.

This is almost perfect; we need to add 1 point to “Improved Judgements” in the retribution tree, and Holy Shield lasts 8 seconds not 9.

We then mash a single macro, a castsequence, casting each spell in order. Because each ability is an instant cast, our client does not need to wait on the server to acknowledge the completion of each spell; this means, the GCD is the only limitation on our macro.

Our “9″ second abilities are: Holy Shield, Judgement, and Consecrate.

Our “6″ second abilities are: Hammer of the Righteous and Shield of Righteousness.

The macro uses 255 of the 255 characters, if you judge both Wisdom and Light or 254 of the 255 characters, if you judge Light twice. There aren’t enough characters to judge Wisdom twice, unless you use an addon.

I like to use a “Click” macro, to call my 96969 macro because I would like to include “start attack” and the option for my DPS to attack without my Paladin joining in (ranged mob which will die before it closes to melee).

My 96969 macro prioritizes: Holy Shield > Judgement > Consecrate. I like this, because I have the option to manually Consecrate as the mobs arrive, and it will have refreshed by the time my sequence gets to it. Many people prioritize Judgement over Holy Shield, both because of the initial threat and because the Paladin will take more damage this way, and if healing is not an issue, this means more mana to the Paladin via Spiritual Attunement.

My “Click” is simple:

#show Holy Shield
/stopmacro [mod]
/startattack
/Click MultiBarRightButton12

Naturally, change the “click” to point to where your 96969 macro actually resides. If you had trinkets, which you want to automatically execute whenever the cooldown allows, include them in this macro.

And my 96969 is:

/castsequence reset=9 Holy Shield,Hammer of the Righteous,Judgement of Light,Shield of Righteousness,Consecration,Hammer of the Righteous,Holy Shield,Shield of Righteousness,Judgement of Light,Hammer of the Righteous,Consecration,Shield of Righteousness

And then we got more looks. Check it out: http://multiboxing.com/forums/f4/guide-paladin-96969-macro-1711.html

The idea behind FTL (Focusless, targetless, leaderless) is to setup multiboxing in a way that you can transparently switch masters without having to change macros, play solo without worrying about the other characters and to not rely on focus or target for group actions.

Macro modifiers and PwnBoxer key mappings

The fundamental challenge of FTL is how to write macros that “know” who the current master is without hardcoding the name of master in WoW macros. The trick is to use PwnBoxer key mappings and WoW Macro “Modifiers”.

Disclaimer: This is my way of implementing FTL. There are many other ways.

First of all, assign a keyboard modifier to each of your characters. It’s a good idea to draw a diagram or write them down. This can be very confusing.

e.g.

Malaias – Shift + Alt

Malaia – Ctrl + Alt

Malaine – Shift

Malaiah – Ctrl

Malaena – Alt

Next, decide on which keys to use on master and which keys to use for slaves. In my screenshot above, and for the purpose of this guide, I will pick:

Keys 1-5 for Master/Solo

Keys 6-0 for Slaves/Mapped

When playing, I will only ever press keys 1-5. Keys 6-0 are reserved for FTL.

The idea is that if you press Key “1″ on the master, it will map to Key “6″ on all the slaves with a modifier indicating who the master was that pressed “1″. When a slave receives the Key “6″, the slave understands that the master pressed Key “1″ and in the macro associated with Key “6″, it will interpret a modifier to determine who the master was. Confusing?

An example.

Pressing “1″ on Malaias (Game 1) will result in Key “6″ being pressed on all slaves (Malaia/Game2, Malaine/Game3, Malaiah/Game4, Malaena/Game5). Because I assigned the modifier “Shift + Alt” (arbitrarily) to Malaias/Game1, the slaves don’t get simply a Key “6″, I actually setup PwnBoxer so that they all receive “Shift + Alt + 6″. Again, to explain: the “6″ says that the master pressed “1″ and the “Shift + Alt” says the master is Malaias/Game1.

The Key Mapping in PwnBoxer for this example is shown in the screenshot above and should look like…

Code:

If "Game 1" selected, transform "1" into "Alt + Shift + 6" on "Game 2".
If "Game 1" selected, transform "1" into "Alt + Shift + 6" on "Game 3".
If "Game 1" selected, transform "1" into "Alt + Shift + 6" on "Game 4".
If "Game 1" selected, transform "1" into "Alt + Shift + 6" on "Game 5".

There should be no rule for mapping to “Game 1″ since this is where the Key “1″ was pressed.

A macro can now use the following to determine the master and set the target accordingly. The nice thing is that the same macro can be used on all slaves.

Code:

/target
[mod:shift,mod:alt,target=Malaias]
[mod:ctrl,mod:alt,target=Malaia]
[mod:shift,target=Malaine]
[mod:ctrl,target=Malaiah]
[mod:alt,target=Malaene]

It’s important to list the multi-modifier targets first (e.g. Shift+Alt before Alt). This is so that you can avoid unnecessary additional attributes such as ‘nomod’ since WoW Macros cannot contain more than 255 characters. If you want to write larger macros, you’ll need an Addon such as Macaroon! or Super Duper Macro.

A “FTL” follow macro would therefore look like…

Code:

/target
[mod:shift,mod:alt,target=Malaias]
[mod:ctrl,mod:alt,target=Malaia]
[mod:shift,target=Malaine]
[mod:ctrl,target=Malaiah]
[mod:alt,target=Malaene]
/follow
/targetlasttarget

The first command “/target” sets the target based on the modifier. The second command “/follow” instructs a slave to follow the target (i.e. the master) and the third command returns the target to the previous target.

Generating the PwnBoxer Configuration

Malaias – Druid Tank

Malaia – Elemental Shaman

Malaine – Elemental Shaman

Malaiah – Elemental Shaman

Malaena – Elemental Shaman

The difficult part is now to define Key Mappings for all possible combinations. Linux helps!

The script below can be used to generate a PwnBoxer configuration for the Key Mappings.

Code:

/target [mod:shift,mod:alt,target=Malaias][mod:ctrl,mod:alt,target=Malaia][mod:shift,target=Malaine][mod:ctrl,target=Malaiah][mod:alt,target=Malaene]
/follow
/targetlasttarget

Example - Sequenced Group Invite Macro (run from Malaias):
/in 1 /invite Malaia
/in 4 /invite Malaine
/in 7 /invite Malaiah
/in 10 /invite Malaene

One PwnBoxer KeyMapping looks like this in the .pbcfg file.

Code:

                {
                        "Active Window" : 0,
                        "Input Key" : "1",
                        "Output Key" : "Shift + Alt + 6",
                        "Output Window" : 1
                }

The above configuration says to map Key 1 from Game 1 to Shift+Alt+6 in Game 2. The above configuration needs to be added to a Saved PwnBoxer Configuration file (.pbcfg) in the “Key Mapping” section.

Code:

  "Key Remapping" :
  [
    {
       "Active Window" : 0,
       "Input Key" : "1",
       "Output Key" : "Shift + Alt + 6",
       "Output Window" : 1
    }
  ]

It’s not working!

It definitely works with PwnBoxer – that’s what I’m using. Below are some of the mistakes I made:

I forgot to make sure that Ctrl, Shift, Alt weren’t configured by WoW for auto-loot, self-cast and focus-cast keys.

I also feel like I had to completely exit WoW and restart PwnBoxer and explicitly load my .pbcfg configuration before it really seemed to work. But this was probably because I was editing the .pbcfg file directly.

I use Bartender (maybe same applies to other action bars), and for the modifiers to work, I had to assign the actual key and not the modifier+key to the action bar. e.g. action bar has “J” and not “Ctrl-J”. But this was to make modifiers accessible inside macros.

I only configure the “master” keys (e.g. “1″ and not “Ctrl-J”) to be broadcast. And then I have the Key Remapping defined to map “1″ to “Ctrl-J”.

Ualaa has once again impressed us with an amazing multiboxing guide. This time he covers a method that can often result is achieving an absolute maximum amount of DPS efficiency, while also allowing the ability to perform a few macro sequences which you are not able to do inside a single macro alone.

Using Click for Multiple Castsequences

Goal
We want to create a master macro, which can be spammed very quickly. Based on our spam speed, we want it to call our damage dealing spells in the order we specify, and to have them recast at the best possible time. We want all this to be accomplished from spamming a single button.

Basics
We will build two types of macros for “Click”. The first is the master macro, which calls the others. The second are the “Castsequence” macros, which execute the spells we desire.

We can place our Castsequence Macro’s on several bars. Within the default interface these are:

Default Bar……. /Click ActionButton#
Bottom Left……./Click MultiBarBottomLeftButton#
Bottom Right…../Click MultiBarBottomRightButton#
Left Bar…………./Click MultiBarLeftButton#
Right Bar………../Click MultiBarRightButton#

The pound (#) symbol will be exchanged for the button number, which in the default UI ranges from 1 to 12.

If you use a bar addon, like Bartender, Dominos or Macaroon, you will need to know the name of the button which you are clicking. Within Dominos, when you are configuring your bar (positioning, size etc) if you mouse over it will give the name of the button, which you would then use in the place of /Click MultiBarBottomLeftButton4 or whatever.

Research
We need to know our own spam speed. Open Word or Notepad. Watch a clock or your watch. Spam any letter or any number for 10 seconds. Spam at the speed you will spam during play. Count how many of the key you spammed, and divide that by 10. That is how many of the key you pressed per second. Ideally, you spam at least 2 presses per second, and as many as you can comfortably maintain. Most spam between 2 and 5 presses per second.

We also need to know information on our spells. Specifically recast delays and dot durations. We can get this information by googling: “Wow +Wiki +Class +Abilities”. Substitute your class into the search.

For my destruction warlock, I came up with:
Curse of the Elements, 5 minute duration
Immolate, 15 second duration
Conflagrate, 10 second cooldown (glyphed)
Chaos Bolt, 10 second cooldown (glyphed)

Timing
Based on our spam speed, we will need to insert a number of commas into our castsequences to attain the correct timing. I personally spam at 2 clicks per second. So I need to insert 2 commas for every second of desired delay.

Immolate has a 15 second duration, so I want 30 commas in its sequence before I recast (in this case, it is a dot and I want it to run its course).

Conflagrate has a 10 second cooldown, so I want 20 commas before it attempts to recast, because it cannot be used until the cooldown expires.

I have a fall through button, which will execute if everything else is on cooldown. For my warlock this is Incinerate. It needs to be a spell which is not a dot, but can be cast as often as you desire, as soon as the GCD has expired.

Procedure
Our master macro is typically placed on the first button of the default action bar. My warlock’s master macro is:

#show Chaos Bolt
<Insert Assist Method, or Omit line if using FTL>
/Click MultiBarRightButton1
/Click MultiBarRightButton2
/Click MultiBarRightButton3
/Click MultiBarRightButton4
/Click MultiBarRightButton5

Macro on Button 1
#showtooltip Curse of the Elements
/cast [mod, nochanneling] Drain Soul
/castsequence [nochanneling] reset=target Curse of the Elements,Null

Macro on Button 2
#showtooltip Immolate
/cast [mod, nochanneling] Drain Soul
/castsequence [nochanneling] reset=target Immolate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
/use 13
/use 14
/cast [pet:imp] Firebolt

Macro on Button 3
#showtooltip Conflagrate
/cast [mod, nochanneling] Drain Soul
/castsequence [nochanneling] reset=combat Conflagrate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Macro on Button 4
#showtooltip Chaos Bolt
/cast [mod, nochanneling] Drain Soul
/castsequence [nochanneling] reset=combat Chaos Bolt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Macro on Button 5
#showtooltip Incinerate
/cast [mod, nochanneling] Drain Soul
/cast [nochanneling] Incinerate

Tweaking
Take your Click macro and visit a target dummy.

Drag all of the spells out of the spell book, and put them into a line, where they won’t be clicked upon.

Run the click macro, and observe each spell in turn. Check to see that it is casting, and in the case of a dot that it recasts almost as soon as the dot expires. Add commas if it recasts too soon, and remove commas if there is a wait until the recast. Do the same for each other spell in your sequence.

If your haste significantly changes, it wouldn’t hurt to re-tweak your Clicking.

Onslaught Harbor (132.3 gold)

Fly South West to Death’s Rise (20,48) and Take: (14) From their Corpses, Rise!, (15) No Fly Zone.

Pull several flying mobs in Onslaught harbor to a single turret and AoE them down. The same mobs will work for both quests.

At Death’s Rise, turn in quests. Take the FP to Shadow Vault and turn in quests.

North Central Citadel (243.30 gold)

Fly South East from the Vault to (55,29) and do Not a Bug. From there, head to (48,32) and do Retest Now. Then fly up the stairs/ramp into the building and complete No Rest for the Wicked. Finally fly south along the ramparts to Drag and Drop.

For Not a Bug, kill the necromancer first, then use Rod of Siphoning (all toons at once) on the voidwalker. 10 seconds after its killed, you can no longer siphon Dark Matter; Summoning Stone is over the edge at 54,34. The necromancers drop the piece for Retest Now.

In Retest Now (48,32), each mob is lootable by everyone, so the minimum required kills is 10, not 50. Completing this quest gets you a 2-hour (Icecrown) buff. Dark (eastern) = +spell power, Green (middle) = Stamina, and Blue (western) = +attack power.

In No Rest for the Wicked, pick up Alumenth’s Artifacts (from the chests) on all five characters, have each combine them to they survive log-out. This allows you to ignore the trash on your next four visits.

Head to (55,46) for Drag and Drop, initiates drop the orb, use on subjugators.

Hearth to Dalaran; have Officer Van Rossem fly you to the Skybreaker, turn in all remaining quests.

5. Summary

Intro

So you want to box? Welcome to the club! It’s an exciting alternative method of gameplay that will introduce you to more challenges than you can imagine!

Requirements.

Accounts.

You’ll need multiple accounts. There is no way to play 2 characters on the same acct at the same time. Yes you will need to pay for all of them, regardless if it’s 2 or 25.

A Method of Keystroke Duplication.

There is a plethora of keystroke duplication methods available.

Hardware Duplication

Hardware duplication can be done via use of KVM devices which have a broadcast mode, Vectra multiplexers are very popular for those who choose to hardware box as well.

Software Duplication

Software duplication involves running an application on 1 or more PC’s. If multiple machines are involved, one of these is typically a master/server, while the remaining are slaves/clients. They communicate via the local network. If 1 PC is used, the application captures all keystrokes and instead of delivering them to only the currently active window, delivers it to all windows previously dictated within the application. These applications also tend to have a method of launching multiple games at once, easing the startup process.

Hardware.

You will need a computer or computers capable of running multiple copies of WoW. Some people choose to run 1 copy of WoW per machine, others run multiple copies of WoW on 1 machine. What you decide depends on what keystroke duplication method you have chosen.

Note: The Keystroke Duplication method you choose is not the deciding factor on your hardware, and vice versa. Unless you have the funds and desire to start from scratch, the best place to start regarding making this decision is by reviewing what you have on hand now.

Pros and Cons:

Hardware Pros:
There is no software (“3rd party application” in typical EULA-speak) for you to be banned/penalized for.
With no software, no software can crash.

Hardware Cons:
It’s on all the time.
There’s no method of not passing selected keys. You pass everything.

Software Pros:
Typically very configurable, there are many options that are not available to hardware keystroke duplication.

Software Cons:
It can be viewed as a “3rd party application”, causing you to be banned/penalized depending on your game.
If it fails, your crew is standing there dumbfounded.

Glossary of Useful Terms

Big Button – Typically this refers to a single button which resets your toons to a default configuration, and for following.
Driver – Your “main” character for your team. Typically used to describe the character in which you give primary input.
Failover – The ability to switch from 1 toon to another and maintain control (from limited to complete) of the remainder of your toons. The best example of this when your driver dies.
Keymap – A method of “redirecting” keystrokes. Example: Pressing 1 on WoW1, would be redirected to a keystroke of 2 on WoW2, WoW3, and WoW4.
Macro – A function within World of Warcraft which permits the end user to customize commands
Master – An alternate term for Driver.
Multiboxer – Someone who plays multiple characters on multiple accounts at the same time
Multiplexer – Any device which duplicates input, whether that be to multiple application or multiple computers.
Slave – Characters which take their cues regarding movement, combat, and all other activities from the Driver or Master
Team – Your group of characters.
Toon – An alternate word for Character

Pros and Cons of Boxing

Why is knowing the pros and cons of boxing important before we even get into learning how to box? New boxers sometimes don’t understand the hidden pitfalls, and can get into the habit of doing things that are ultimately hazardous. Hopefully this will produce a lot of “A-HAH I understand why it’s done that way” moments.

Pros:
THIS IS FUN!
Grouping - You don’t need to find as many people to group with – Less or No Pugging.
Space - 2/3/4/5 the bagspace, vaultspace, availability for additional professions.
2/3/4/5 times the damage. *disclaimer* – you will not be capable of doing any more damage than multiple individual players could.
Focus Fire – You ever have that 1 DPS warrior in that PUG who was completely unable to assist anyone?
Variety – You can do things single players can’t by themselves! *disclaimer* – you will not be capable of doing any activities that multiple individual players could not also do.

Cons:
Cost – in more ways than 1. Real world expenses – You have more physical hardware, you have electrical expenses, and you have more accounts to pay for. In game expenses – You have 2/3/4/5 x the toons to gear up, 2/3/4/5 the repair bill.
Loss of Detail – You will only have as much functionality as you put time into developing. You will almost never attain the detailed level of control as 5 individual players.
Reduced Level of Control: You will have reduced level of physical control of your slaves. You will only have detailed control of your driver.
Time – To be successful at boxing you will need to invest TIME into your team. Boxing is NOT an express lane to leveling 5 guys quickly. Typically it takes LONGER. Unless you choose to invest 5x the time into collection quests, you can write off collection quests. Luckily, you can grind instances.
Harassment: YOU WILL GET REPORTED. There is no if’s ands or but’s about this. The flipside of this is, it’s legal. As long as you are in control of your toons, you aren’t doing anything wrong.

Regarding claims that boxers do this for profit:

My numbers may be a little off, but the point is easily made

Base Cost: $100 for 5 Wow, $150 for 5x BC, another $150 for WOLK, $75 (1 month membership x 5) – $475

If it took someone 10 days played to level 5 accounts to 80, and sold each for $300 each, he’d make $4.27/hr ($1500-475=$1025/240 hours). The current US Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr.

Methods of Control

*Important Note* – Regardless of what method of control you choose, keep this in mind as a base rule: If, when you leave your desk, your toons do anything at all (other than in game functions) – It’s BAD. If you have any question regarding the legality of your setup, ASK SOMEONE.

Generic Macros.

If you choose not to use a boxing addon, these macros will assist you managing some of the more mundane tasks.

Group invites – Set Loot Method

Code:

/invite toon1name
/invite toon2name
/invite toon3name
/invite toon4name
/ffa

For accepting trades, quests, BG timers, release after death, assign this to the same key on all your toons.

Code:

/script Setview(5);Setview(5)
/script AcceptGroup();
/script AcceptQuest();
/script AcceptTrade();
/script RetrieveCorpse();
/script RepopMe();
/script AcceptBattlefieldPort(1, 1)

There are other commands that can be included in this generic “Accept” key, I’ve highlighted the more popular ones in the above listed macro.

The Assist Method

This is fairly simple. 2 macros can illustrate how this works.

The big button:

Code:

/target MainToon
/follow

Spellcasting:

Code:

/assist Maintoon
/cast InsertSpellHere

Most boxers begin with this – it’s extremely simple and gets you out of the gate really fast. The downside is there is no failover. If you main guy dies, you’re stuck with your slaves casting on the last target targeted, and no more. Boxers typically very quickly veer away from this method for the following (and more complicated) alternatives, as the negatives of this method become clear very fast.

The Focus Method

This fundamental philosophy behind the focus method is your slaves take their cues off of whomever they have focused. This is a widely used method.

The big button for this is relatively simple

Code:

/target Maintoon
/focus
/follow

DPS and casting is typically as such

Code:

/cast [target=focustarget, harm] [] Pewpewpew

The [] is for when the driver is dead, and your slave becomes the new driver/main.

The easiest way to facilitate failover is the assignment of manual keys for the new driver – i.e.: Toon1 dies, switch to Toon2’s window, click F2 (or whichever key you have assigned to switch all toons focus to the second toon)

The macro would be:

Code:

/target Toon2
/focus
/follow

Now the second toon is the leader. Rinse and repeat regarding macro creation for the remainder of your toons.

The No Focus Method

With the No Focus method, your slaves take their cues off of whoever they currently have targeted.

The big button for this method comes in 2 variants. The initial, less complicated variant operats as such:

Code:

/target [target=Brain, nodead, help, exists]; [target=Toon2, nodead, help, exists]; [target=Toon3, nodead, help, exists]; [target=Toon4, nodead, help, exists]; [target=Brain, exists]
/follow

Translated:

Code:

/target [target=Main guy if he's alive]; [target=#2 if he's alive]; [target=#3 if he's alive]; [target=#4 if he's alive]; [target=Main guy – you’re all dead]
/follow

The negative to this method is you needed to go from toon to toon in a specific order.

A new variant was developed to counter this deficiency which involves keymaps and creates a “Psuedo FTL”. A button press is still required to re-align everyone to the correct toon, but it doesn’t require a specific order.

For this method the big button is as follows:

Code:

/target Maintoon
/follow

Regardless of which version you choose to select, with this method your slave never actually target the mob. DPS and casting macros typically appear as follows

Code:

/cast [target=targettarget, harm] [] Pewpewpew

As with the focus method, the [] is for when the driver is dead, and your slave becomes the new driver.

For more information regarding this method please Google “No Focus Manifesto”. The newest version with the Pseudo FTL is version 2.0.

The FTL Method

Of all the methods listed, FTL is the most complicated and requires massive amounts of setup. Some 3rd party software has had some success in automating the FTL setup process, but knowledge of how it works is absolutely required. FTL stands for Focusless, Targetless, Leaderless. It utilizes the strengths of hotkeys to minimize input. Simply put, regardless of what window you’re in, there is nothing you ever need to press to cause a failover to the current toon. All toons assist the current controlled toon.

The macro for the big button using the FTL method appear as follows:

Code:

/target [mod:ctrl,mod:shift,nomod:alt,target=ToonA]
[mod:ctrl,mod:alt,nomod:shift,target=ToonB]
[mod:alt,mod:shift,nomod:ctrl,target=ToonC]
[mod:ctrl,mod:alt,mod:shift,target=ToonD]
[mod:ctrl,nomod:alt,nomod:shift,target=ToonE]
/cast [target=targettarget,harm] Lightning Bolt
/targetlasttarget

Additionally, you need to write keymaps for every spell you wish to use.

For more information regarding this method control, I recommend you Google “focusless targetless leaderless”.

Summary

Multiboxing is an exciting and challenging alternative form of gameplay. If you’re up to the task, prepare yourself for many hours of research, experimentation, research, macro writing, research, machine upgrades, research and ultimately fun! (followed by more research).

I hope this has been helpful, and thank you for your time.

Ever wondered how those multiboxers make their characters automatically spread apart, forming those neat “formations” with smooth, robotic-like ease? It just so happens that these precise individual character movements, known as formations, are actually just a clever use of WoW’s built-in movement keys, such as left strafing, right strafing, and moving forwards and backwards. Once you understand how it works, it is actually very easy to set up.

Our very own Ebony created this guide on how to do character formations in World of Warcraft with Pwnboxer’s key remapping features. This guide should enable you to impress your entire server with your awesome control of your multiboxing group:

To start, this is what you will make them look like, if done correctly:

Ok so we keep wow as it is so the std keybord config in wow. First we need a key to use as our movement key. In this guide we going to use key NumpadO.

Then we need to set up Pwnboxer’s key configuration to make sure we are broadcasting NumO.

Click Configure Keys -> then go to Add New Key -> then click NumO (it will automatically add it to the list).

Now the fun part is to go into Key Remapping in the top right of the screen (blue box round it).

We will want to add the following:

If “Game1″ selected, transform “Num0″ into “Q” on “Game2″

Press add

Then do it for the others

If Game 1 > Num0 > E on game3
If Game 1 > Num0 > W on game4
If Game 1 > Num0 > S on game5

Sso it looks like this:

Then hit “OK” on all of the window boxes to complete your changes. Next, you will want to save your Pwnboxer configuration.

Next, start up your WoWs (or if started already) Press Num0 and it should move all your guys in a nice, box-like formation! Note that this assumes you have not changed any of the WoW default movement keys.

There are a lot more powerful ways you can use this in a system but I wanted to keep it easy to show you how to start it out for new members.

I hope this is guide helps you all in what you need to do formations!

You’ve heard about the Recruit-A-Friend program that Blizzard offers for World of Warcraft, right? Well, do you also know that multiboxers have been using it to get level 300% faster from 1 – 60, as well as the ability to (over time) grant hundreds of free levels to your various characters?

You can RAF (Refer a Friend) from your account management page, for your account, on the world of warcraft main page.

I always suggest linking like this:
A – B – C – D – E

To form a chain like this, you would sent an RAF invite to yourself, from Account A’s account management. Then use the code emailed to you to create a trial/RAF account. Then use a retail cd-key to upgrade the trial account. Then the repeat the process, but each time do it from the new accounts page.

The Battlechests are probably the best option for accounts which you intend to keep. They are marginally cheaper then Classic Warcraft + Burning Crusade. I would imagine Blizzard will put out a Classic + Burning Crusade + Wrath box at some point after the release of Cataclysm.

The account with the best boosting toon will be referred to as Account A. The best booster is usually a Prot. Paladin, although any tank class is a strong choice too (Death Knight, Feral Druid or Warrior). An AoE class is good, but they don’t have the survivability to boost in the more difficult dungeons.

A toon RAF’d to 60th can now grant 30 levels (instead of 29 levels at 59th). With boosting, you can go 1st to 60th in 10-12 hours /played. A week is more common, for experienced but not hardcore players. Let’s say (over the course of 3 months of RAF) you boost a 4x group of:

Druids, Hunters, Mages, Paladins, Shamans and Warlocks…

That is 6 toons, or (6×30) 180 levels to grant.

A Has 0 RAF Toons and a Booster.
B Has 6 Toons and grants A 180 levels.
C Has 6 Toons and grants B 180 levels.
D Has 6 Toons and grants C 180 levels.
E Has 6 Toons and grants D 180 levels.

But we have cascade linked our accounts into a chain.

B Has received 180 levels from C and can give an extra 90 levels to A
C Has received 180 levels from D and can give an extra 90 levels to B
D Has received 180 levels from E and can give an extra 90 levels to C

And…

B Has received 90 more levels from C and can give 45 more to A
C Has received 90 more levels from D and can give 45 more to B

And…

B Has received 45 more levels from C and can give another 22 to A.

So A in total has 180+90+45+22… 337 levels. A boosted: Druids, Hunters, Mages, Paladins, Shamans and Warlocks.

Let’s assume A boosted with a DK and that you are only interested in playing the six classes we boosted, each as a 5-box group.

337 divided by 6 = 56.16.

On A, we will need to create one of each of those six classes. We will want to level them to 4th. And ideally be 19+ bubbles into 4th level. We do not want them to ding 5th, from exploration exp’s if we move them about.

We can grant levels to any toon our level or lower. But cannot grant levels to a toon of 60th or higher level. So a toon who is 59th, can be level granted to 60th with a 60th or higher toon.

56 granted levels to a level 4 toon, makes the new toon 60th level after granted levels. And they’ll still be 19 bubbles into their level, probably 61st by the time they arrive in Hellfire.

These are the levels from an Alliance perspective…

1st to 10th, Quest with booster in the party.
10th to 16th, Deadmines runs.
16th to 20th, Stockades runs.
20th to 45th, Scarlet Monastery runs (slow at the end, but better then Sunken Temple or Zul’Farrak)
45th to 55th, Stratholme – the more eastern entrance.
55th to 60th, Ramparts.

Here is an option for boosting further (no RAF beyond 60th) with the faster method listed first:

Group two toons together – it needs to be a group. AoE of some sort is much faster, Arcane Explosion is ideal. Equip as much +Sta (green AH gear) as possible on the AoE toon. Take these two toons to Borean Tundra. Meet three Shaman’s there (any pet class works, but Shammies are the best). Find the rhino’s (watch for the Elite rider on a rhino, kill with shammies on sight). Prepare the Shammies with Magma Totems x3 on one key. Stoneclaw x1 round-robin. If you have dual-spec Resto, E.Shield on the mage helps. Have them auto follow the mage.

Mage runs around AoE spamming – pisses off several rhino’s. Drop Stoneclaw and Magma’s. When Stoneclaw dies, drop another until all Rhino’s are dead. Heal up and repeat. Important – A group of toons who tag (damage) a mob get full experience for its kill if the only other damage done to the mob is by pets. And totems are considered pets. Do not help with kills (nukes) on your higher toons. Note – Rhino meat, in stacks of 5, sells very well on the AH. It is used in a Dalaran cooking daily. If you loot everything, you will easily triple the 60-70 process.

Trick – On your AoE Pull LV 60 Toon (Mage), set loot to Master Looter. Have yourself as the Master Looter. Choose to “Opt out of loot”. Set the loot threshold to Green and above. Any corpse with a Green/Blue/Purple on it, will sparkle for you to “master loot” it to a party member. Every other corpse will not sparkle.

I did 60th to 70th on a Mage/Druid in 12.5 hours of play time, spread over 3 days (its pretty boring). A DVD going as a distraction is almost required to retain your sanity. I had full rested on the toons and ran out (1.5 levels gained) in 40 minutes of pulls — without any rested, this would have taken an extra 40 minutes.

This only works for two toons at once. But even doing it twice, is faster then instance runs. Every piece of gear a fresh 60 gains in Outland will be crap compared to the quest pieces a fresh 70 gains in Northrend; the only Outland gear that will survive past 75th is T5/T6 raid pieces. You’re not losing out on gearing, by boosting.

Another slower method but which works for the whole party is to continue with instances. You want mostly melee type mobs. Underbog works from 60-66th, and Black Morass from 66th to 70th (just don’t start the event). And if you don’t have a booster for any level range, questing is faster experience then anything else. Battlegrounds will likely beat pure grinding without quest turn ins for the mobs you grind upon.

Update on 11/22/09:

Let’s say you set up a chain.
A has high toons, and refers B.
B has a level 1 and refers C etc.

A — B — C — D — E

The A — B link gets no RAF, because of the level difference and because A is over 59th.
However the B — C link does get RAF because both are under 60th and are within a small level spread (I believe 4 levels is the limit).

So we have:
A) Say level 70 or 80.
B-E) Say level 20.

You take them to the graveyard in Scarlet Monastery.
You park the level 20’s at zone in.

B gets RAF 3x exp’s because they’re grouped with C.
D gets it because they’re grouped with C and E.
E gets it because they’re grouped with D.

If you kill an elite mob with 5x level 20’s, you might get 1,400 exp.
But because one of the PC’s is level 80, you only get 380 exp.
But because of RAF, it is 3x.
So the 4 level 20’s get 1,140.. from the mob.
So far, not a good deal.

Until you realize 5x level 20’s, have a hard time with a single level 20 elite.
The level 70 can one-shot the same elite.
And if its a Feral/DK/Prot Paladin/Warrior, can tank and kill 40 of them at once.
And you down 40 mobs (at 1140 each), in about the time the 5x level 20 group will down 1-2 mobs.
And you can handle 40 easily, while the lowbies are dead with 3 at once.

Basically you move the lowbies to zone in.
Gather up as much as you can handle and run most of the way back.
Find somewhere where Line of Sight is broken.
So they have to come around the corner to cast at you.
Which puts them into melee range.
Kill the bunch of them.

Then move up some.
In a lot of instances you will pull to zone in.
And kill almost at the lowbies.
But sometimes you’ll move them up (deeper into the instance), for a 2nd massive pull.

Once all the pulls (generally 1-3 pulls) are done, zone everyone out and reset the instance.
Then bring them in again and repeat.

Depending on clear speed, you might want to waste time looting inside the instance.
You cannot run more then 5 (or is it 6) times in an hour.
So if you’re clearing in less then 12 mins, you will reach a point where you are waiting for the time to pass before you can zone back in.
My paladin pulls all of the Cathedral in Scarlet Monastery to zone in, as a single pull.

If you’re going for fastest leveling, loot since you’ll have to waste time anyway.
Due to the lockout, as long as you are not taking more then 12 mins a run.

If you’re going for minimal /played time…
Then log out, while you are locked out of the instances.
Once the time goes by, log back in and resume.

Many people have seen the Justin.tv/Multiboxing video stream and have wondered just how this is done. Perhaps you’ve also watched Lingling, Kaiba12, Eatcarbs, or Catreina. Heck, maybe you are a FPS fan of games like Modern Warfare 2, Team Fortress 2, or maybe you just want to do HD/HQ video streaming and don’t know how? Well look no further.

Here is a written guide as well as a 3 part video stream I have made detailing exactly what needs to be done to do HD/HQ streaming from your PC to the JTV network.

Step #0 – Create Justin.tv Account
Duh! Justin.tv – Live Video and Chat for Everyone

Step #1 – Get Software

Download and install Adobe (FME) Flash Media Encoder 2.5 (NOT 3.x) . FME3.x is far, far slower (~400% slower) than FME2.5.
Do not run FME
Download and install VHScrCap

Step #2 – Set up VHScrCap

Run Start MenuHmelyoffVHScrCapConfig.exe
Select “Create new one”
Click Settings, Frame rate to 30, only have Align Video, Show mouse, Show clicks checked, nothing else (for full resolution)
Click Capture, Do not click any boxes, click Select, click the window desktop of the monitor with your WoWs
Close the VH Screen Capture Driver dialog

Step #3 – Create batch file for FME

Create c:fme folder
Notepad c:fmejustin.bat with this info:

Code:

"C:Program Files (x86)AdobeFlash Media Encoder 2.5FMEcmd.exe" /p c:fmejustin.xml

Replace the path to FMEcmd.exe if you installed to a different directory.

Step #3.5 – GET INITIAL XML

Run Flash Media Encoder 2.5. Select the sound capture device that you wish (Eg. Stereo Mix). Then select “Save Profile”. Then open up that file you have saved and locate the following line:

<device>Line In (Realtek High Definitio</device>

Note: It will have the name of the audio device you selected. Cut/paste that entire line into a new notepad document for step #4. You may now close the profile you opened up as well as the FME graphic interface.

Step #4 – Create FME XML

Notepad c:fmejustin.xml

Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
<flashmediaencoder_profile>
    <preset>
        <name>Custom</name>
        <description></description>
    </preset>
    <capture>
        <video>
        <device>VHScrCap</device>
        <crossbar_input>0</crossbar_input>
        <frame_rate>60</frame_rate>
        <size>
            <width>1920</width>
            <height>1080</height>
        </size>
        </video>
        <audio>
        <device>Line In (Realtek High Definitio</device>
        <crossbar_input>0</crossbar_input>
        <sample_rate>44100</sample_rate>

Edit the Width, Height, and be sure to cut/paste in your audio device as listed in step 3.5. Go down to the Save options and make sure to select UNICODE!

Next, you need your stream ID. To get this JTV stream ID, log into JTV and then click here. This will download a file to your desktop. Open up that file and locate the following line:

<stream>YOURJTVFMESTREAMID</stream>

The stream ID will be listed there. Cut/paste into the XML file justin.xml in the correct section.

Step #4.5 – SET YOUR BITRATE

Open up your justin.xml file and locate the following line:

Code:

        <datarate>1000</datarate>

The datarate of 1000kbps is enough for a decent quality stream. However, if your internet connection upload speed is high enough, it is recommended to change this number to between 1500 on up. Give it a few tests to find that “sweet spot” where you can stream high quality as well as not have any internet issues with a bitrate too high for your internet connection.

Step #5 – Start streaming!

Simply run the justin.bat file and it should pop up a black window that scrolls some stats about FPS and bitrate. Now you’re streaming!

Too tired to show more now, hopefully somebody can respond to this thread with some screenshots.

Lindline blows through Ramparts with his 5 multiboxed shamans and destroys the instance.

Trash Strategy – 3-packs are mostly random during the first wing. Priority on killing is Destroyers, Darkcasters, Hungerers, Archers, Worgs. Destroyers are a heavy damage melee mob with a small knockback which can eat through a party member if not dispatched quickly. Darkcaster do moderate damage with their real threat coming from their AoE damage, which isn’t much of a threat for solo-boxers but can cause an issue with a tightly packed multiboxer. Archers and Hungerers dont do much damage and can be worried about last. Worgs aren’t much of a threat at all and will be eaten up by AoE (such as shaman chain lightning).

Special mobs – The Beastmaster will summon 3 worgs if he is alive after about 10 seconds from the pull. He does little DPS and is easily dispatched in that timeframe if priority DPS is pushed on him.

Watchkeeper Gargolmar – Gargolmar has 2 healer add which will attempted to heal him when he gets low on health. You can either dispatch these two first or hope you can push out enough DPS to overcome their healing. He also has a frontal aoe knockback, so its advisable to keep your team spread slightly away from him. Keep your “tank” healed up and hit him hard and fast.

Omor the Unscarred – Omor has 3 abilities to worry about. First is Treacherous Aura. This is cast on a random team member and will cause any team member near them to take damage over time. Second is a whip attack that will launch a melee team member into the air for a few seconds and will cause some fall damage when he lands. Third he will summon felhounds. These can be mostly ignored as they do little damage.

Nazan & Vazruden – The trick here is to get the event to reset while your team is in the middle of the circle area. The way to do that is just body pull the two guards that start the event and let them kill your main guy in the center. Dont do anything that will put the rest of your team on their aggro table. Rez your main guy. Now, you’ll be able to reach the dragon circling overhead with ranged attacks. Bring the dragon down to 10% or less but be sure not to kill him.

Now start the event as normal. When the two guards die, the dragon rider will drop. Kill him as quickly as possible (or at least do as much damage as you can). The dragon will drop immediately due to a mechianic in the fight that cause him to descend early if he is low on health (which he should be from you shooting at him beforehand). The dragon is top priority. He has an devestating AoE breath attack and will lay flame patches under random party members. He’ll die quick having only a few thousand health left. Finally kill the dragon rider if he is still alive. Go to the back of the area and open the chest for you loot.

Necrimus has created a great video guide on how to multibox the entire ToC normal mode and farm those epics! He does so with his 5 characters, 1x Pally tank, 4x Shaman.

The first part, the joust, starts with lining all of your characters up against the wall. You will notice he positions his guys directly up against the wall, back facing everything, and pulls the joust parts 1 at a time. He stands still the entire time, spamming his 1, 2, and 4 key while being sure to trample any dismounted guys to ensure they do not re-mount.

The second phase he focuses DPS on the rogue, most likey due to the green goo poison it likes to summon. After the rogue, DPS whomever you’d like. At approx. 2:07 you can see how he strafes his multiboxed team out of the green goo like a pro!

The third phase he simply throws out DPS to the 3 groups of 3, easy as pie. The forth phase the Paladin comes. He mentions keeping down a grounding totem at all times as that will absorb the Totem of Wrath attack.

For the Death Knight first phase, he DPSes like normal and he kills the first add right away so it doesn’t blow up his guys. The second phase of the DK he actually kills all the corpse adds that the DK spawns, this way he does not have to worry about the massive corpse explosions. The final phase is a constant DPS race and he manages to pull it off like a champ.

Congrats to Necrimus on a great tutorial video!

This post will explain the minimum requirements to run 5 World of Warcrafts on 1 PC effectively.

Just how do we define “effectively”?

1x World of Warcraft standing in Orgrimmar, 5 yards away from the main bank mailbox, achieving 40 frames-per-second, with the other 4 games achieving 15 or more frames-per-second. System must be using Vista64 and not have any special hard drive or video card assignments (eg RAID, SLI).

We tested on the following systems, all with Vista64, with the following results

Pentium4@2.00ghz, 4G ram, Geforce4

FAILED: Main WoW: 7fps, 4x Alt WoW: 2fps

Pentium E2200@2.00ghz dual core, 4G ram, Geforce8200

FAILED: Main WoW: 18fps, 4x Alt WoW: 5fps

i7 Extreme 975@5.2ghz, 12G ram, Geforce 295

WAY TOO FAST: Main WoW: 320fps, 4x Alt WoW: 60fps

Pentium E8200@2.66ghz, 4G ram, Geforce 9400

PERFECT: Main WoW: 40fps, 4x Alt WoW: 16fps

Pentium E8400@3.00ghz, 4G ram, Geforce 9800

PERFECT: Main WoW: 50fps, 4x Alt WoW: 18fps

Conclusion: While each system may vary based on a CPU that is a little faster, or a GFX that is a little slower, you should be able to use the following CPU and GFX charts as a reference to find something just around the PERFECT system listed above.

I rather like the e8400, and you can build a multiboxing system capable of running 5x WoWs for under $700.

References: CPU Chart

>$700 System: E8400, 4G RAM, 9800GT, 600wPS, DVD, 380GBHD, Case - Newegg/Ibuypower
